Our Women’s Health service is provided by specifically trained Women’s Health Physiotherapist, who has an understanding of the effects pregnancy, childbirth and menopause has on women.
We will carry out an initial assessment which will include a thorough subjective and objective examination. Treatment and management is provided for a wide range of pelvic floor conditions, back and pelvic pain, muscle dysfunction, deconditioning and hormonal symptoms.
We place an emphasis on education, support and exercise to help you to achieve your health goals.
Many women experience physical complaints postnatally. Becoming a mum can put additional physical demands on the body, which is already recovering from the effects of pregnancy and giving birth.
Our Women’s Health Physiotherapist will tailor your Postnatal Assessment to your symptoms or needs and will include a Diastasis Recti assessment (tummy gap). She will work with you to develop a personal treatment plan and can provide ongoing advice and support to ensure your postnatal symptoms are managed and you meet your overall health goals.
This assessment is based on the 2019 ‘Return to Running Postnatal Guidelines’. The guidelines suggest that in order to ensure your body is ready to return to more impact exercise there are a series of tests that can be carried out.
This 1 hour assessment is suitable for women who are 12 weeks postnatal and beyond. The assessment will involve some standing functional tests and a pelvic floor examination.
You will then be given a bespoke home exercise programme to work on and you will be given advice about returning to exercise and running.
We also offer Pregnancy and Postnatal coaching. This can be done on a 1:1 basis or in a group of up to 4. Your first session will be to clarify your specific goals and set a programme that suits you and your needs. These sessions are great for those that want to lift weights and exercise safely throughout pregnancy and post birth.
Pregnancy and Postnatal Pilates courses are available and allows expectant and new mums to come together and exercise in a safe and supported environment. Please see our ‘Exercise Classes’ section for more details.
We offer women’s health coaching support to women experiencing symptoms of the menopause. This can be in the form of education and support to manage symptoms as well as exercise rehabilitation to improve bone health, preventing future problems and improve overall quality of life.
